Temporal Lobes

The temporal lobes control the following functions:

  • Language usage
  • Memory
  • Mood stability
  • Listening/reading
  • Understanding social cues
  • Rhythm, music

Disturbances in the temporal lobes result in:

  • Emotional instability
  • Memory problems
  • Panic attacks
  • Aggression
  • Headaches
  • Learning problems
  • Inability to understand social cues
  • Delays in the "use" of language (pragmatics)

Children with autism who exhibit seizures, generally have problems with the temporal lobe areas.

People with disturbances in the Temporal Lobes benefit from anticonvulsant medications such as Tegretol, Neurontin, Depakote or Dilantin.
