Dear Fellow ASA members,
In 1978, I met a young boy named Corey. He had Autism and he changed my life. His gentle nature, his exceptional memory and his desire to interact even though he couldn’t, touched my heart.
I’ve met many children like Corey over the years. They have each taught me in different ways. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to listen. I listen to their needs and to the needs of their families. I try to use my knowledge and experience to help them and to become their voice in the world.
There are challenges. Autism is increasing every day. Our educational system is not equipped to teach these children. Our health care system does not support essential treatments for autism. Early intervention is neither accessible nor affordable and as a result, children and adolescents with autism are left to face life without professional help.
My goals as a member of the Board of Directors of ASA would be to:
-Promote early screenings and evaluation.
-Train pediatricians to detect autism at an early age.
-Train teachers to provide early and effective interventions.
-Develop effective programs for older children and adolescents.
-Develop community services for children and adolescents with autism.
-Develop vocational services for adults with autism.
-Help health care and educational providers to collaborate effectively.
-Direct legislators to the growing needs of autism!
-Help families gain financial support, accurate information and guidance.
Please help my voice be heard. I would appreciate your vote.
